More of Maia’s favorite pastime (jumping)

Maia likes to stand on furniture, stick her toes over the edge, and say, “jump!” but until now she hadn’t jumped down from anything higher than a stairstep.  She was standing on the bench/coffee table yesterday when Tom told her, “ok, go ahead, you can jump!”

She is counting in Korean, so cute!  She can count in English to twenty, but she tends to skip nineteen.  When reciting her ABC’s she often skips I, O, and U.  The end of the alphabet is the cutest: “double-doo, ek, why-oo, zeee!”

Another Maia-ism is that when she stands on something, she will say, “baby top!”  She says this, too, when she puts one object on top of something else; like if she puts a teddy bear on a table, she might say, “bear top!”

Her most common requests for drawings in her notebook are “baby hand!” and “big bana!”

I’ve been drawing my banas with spots, so she puts spots on her attempts, too.

Catching up

Grandma Mary and Uncle Bobby visited a few weeks ago, and I finally have a couple of photos to post:

Here is an example of current Bean grammar:

Me: ‘Maia, do you want your water?’

Maia: ‘Baby wadee no.’

So that’s how she constructs negative sentences.  I wonder if it’s due to her exposure to Korean, which does have the negative word at the end, or if it’s just a common baby thing to do.

Electronics woes

It has been a banner week for electronics in our household.  Tom’s computer isn’t working — something happened as he was adding a new hard drive, so I won’t be able to put up some of the nice photos he took until that gets fixed.

My iPhone died an ignoble death in the washing machine.

Other than that, we are well.  Grandma Mary and Uncle Bobby visited over Memorial Day weekend, and Maia enjoyed having them here.  Then this past weekend we went to a birthday party where Maia entertained herself with balloons and a mirror:

Lately Maia has been resisting sitting in her carseat (sigh) and one of her stalling activities is to swing on the carseat headrest/driver’s seat headrest.  I tried to bribe her by promising blueberries, which are like her favorite thing in the world, and it didn’t quite work although it kind of got her attention:

Swimming and some other updates

Maia and Tom have been going to Aquatech Swim for the Tadpoles parent-child class every Saturday for the last few months, while I have work.  Since I recently stopped working on Saturdays, I was able to join them and see what it’s all about!

Here is an update on our little garden:  The sage plant (bottom of the photo) is not doing well.  It has powdery mildew.  I think it is too shaded and we had a period of heavy rain right after planting so that didn’t help.  It might have to go.  The chard, on the right, is doing great, and we used some for cooking.  The zucchini on the left seems to be all right — there are a lot of leaves but I’m not sure if we have any actual zukes yet.

It’s cool to see the vines of the long bean plant curling around the bamboo stakes.  We fed some of the lettuce (left, behind the bean plants) to the cows and sheep and goats at Little Farm last weekend.
