Random catching up

Eek, it’s a while since I posted!

2017-04-03 bean tower

OK this is a little silly, but I rather liked this structure that Beanie made with her wooden blocks.  Her best construction yet.

She continues to grow up so fast!  She can climb the curly ladder at the park by herself!

It’s been a while since we took Maia to the Tilden Park steam train.  I don’t know if she remembers being on it before.  Probably not, but she loved it this time!

Tahoe girls trip

Tom watched the bean last weekend so 할머니, 쪼찌이모, and I could go to Tahoe!  It’s been a record winter and it snowed the night before we drove up, so it was still beautiful.

The first day was overcast and we got a dusting of snow, too, as we snowshoed near the lake.

The next day we went to the east side of Lake Tahoe, to another small lake called Spooner.  The snow was nice and deep there and although the trail was labeled “easy,” I must say snowshoeing is no joke.  We were beat when we finished and I couldn’t wait for a big lunch!

Silly me, I thought we would actually see Spooner Lake, but it is covered by a layer of snow!  There were not a lot of people out here.  The expanses of untrammeled snow were gorgeous.  It’s a good thing some people had broken the trail before us so we knew where to go and didn’t fall into the water.

2017-02-13 maia and mommy

This is from two months ago.  I’ll have to get some new pics of Beanie.  Maia likes to count: “one, one, one, one, one!”  She calls herself “baby,” but it sounds more like “beh-by.”  I told her that the bunny goes, “hop hop,” so now she says, “pop pop!” when she sees a bunny.  She makes me sing “Wheels on the Bus” over and over and over and over and over….

Maia’s garden

Tom got it in his head that he wants to garden with Maia.  Neither of us knows anything about gardening.  Our friends Jonathan and Kelly were nice enough to make a planter for us!  We set it up in our patio (which we never use because I think it is infested (and, in fact, Tom said couldn’t fall asleep later that night thinking about the bazillion spiders he valiantly fought off while clearing the overgrown vines on the fence)), and last weekend we got soil and plants.

We got sage, marigolds, chard, and lettuce from the local nursery; and we also planted seeds for radishes, long beans, and zucchini.2017-04-02 garden 62017-04-02 garden 9

Grow, little plants, grow!

“Mama”

It’s become increasingly clear in the last month that Maia does actually call me “Mama,” but it is confusing because it sounds like the word she uses to mean food.  She used to call food “mam-ma” (맘마) but her pronunciation has shifted to sound more like “ma-ma” (마마).  We try to tell by the context, but we get confused!  It was cute this morning in bed, though, when she said, “Mama! Dada! Mama! Dada!”

Click on this random Cheerios gif 😀

Currently one of her favorite things to do is to watch Dada shower.  As soon as he gets out of bed (and at other random times during the day), Maia runs up and makes a hair-washing gesture.  While he showers, she imitates all the motions — washing arms, washing torso, washing her bottom, haha!

I was concerned at her 18 month appointment about the fact that Maia totally couldn’t care less about other babies/toddlers — she didn’t try to interact with them and would cringe if other kids came up to her.  I’ve been glad to notice that since then she has shown some interest.  She likes to point out other babies to me, and today she followed a little boy around the playground.  🙂

Maia is fairly easy to put to bed, I’d say, but some nights she draws it out:
